and thou shalt be healed
Chance Theater

and thou shalt be healed

This new play will be presented as a reading. Readings are an essential part of the play development process. We are proud to offer this as part of our On The Radar (OTR) New Works Program that aims to support the creation of diverse new stories by emerging U.S. playwrights. Click here to learn more about OTR. ABOUT THE SHOW: Siblings Mary and Johnny were raised in the same Christian cult. Now in their 40s, the still religious Mary is having a crisis of faith and is in need of a miracle. Her now secular brother offers a controversial solution. When reunited on a remote mountain in New Mexico, surrounded by energy vortexes, rumors of aliens, and a golden eyelash palm pit viper named Daisy, they wonder: Did they ever know the same God? FROM THE PLAYWRIGHT: I wrote this play at a time when I–and so many around me–were asking questions about our relationship to faith and spirituality. The play is an attempt to explore the balance between our search for answers and certainty with an acceptance/embrace of mystery, the inexplicable, the ineffable. For those who have seen my work at Chance Theater, you’ve now seen an older play of mine ( at the very bottom of a body of water ), a more recent play of mine ( Alma ), and now you’ll get to see one of my newest works with and thou shalt be healed .

Lee Smith is a freelance artist with a BFA in painting and an MFA in sequential art and storyboarding. He has done work for small independent movies and short films and comics publishers and has self-published several books of drawings and paintings. He worked for many years as a portrait artist for Disney and as a scenic artist for musicals in Southern Ca. Students in this course will acquire basic skills and techniques for life drawing, including gesture, proportion, anatomy, foreshortening, light, and shade. Artists of all skill levels and experience are welcome. In conjunction with the Marvelocity exhibit at the Muzeo we will be emphasizing life drawing for the comic artist. If you look at most of the classic costumes of Marvel characters, they tend to stick to the basic form of the human body, with coloring and designs that follow and accentuate the form. Skills gained from life drawing allow artists to get the lifelike results they want when using photos and their imagination and memory for reference. Admission ticket is for 5 classes. 5 Class Session Dates: June 7 – July 12 June 14 – July 19 June 21 – July 26 June 28 – August 2 July 12 – August 9 July 19 – August 16 *There will be no class on Saturday, July 5th.
