“Magic Happens” Parade

Led by Mickey Mouse and his pals, the parade retells beloved moments of magic from a variety of Disney films.  Jordan Peterson, Show Director for Disney Live Entertainment, described the premise of the parade by saying, “‘Magic Happens’ celebrates magical moments in the lives of our Disney and Pixar characters, all brought to life on a grand scale.”

Nine floats travel down the parade route accompanied by 90 performers.  It was all started by a mouse, so similarly the parade begins with Mickey Mouse himself traveling with a 15-foot tall iridescent magical hat that shimmers thanks to 300 LED lights.  Each float was designed to replicate a piece of moving art.

“Magic Happens” Firsts

For the first time at a Disney Park, guests will see a full-scale float dedicated to “Moana.”  You’ll also see the charismatic Maui on his own piece of the islands.  Plus, a Kakamora unit follows behind the float playing percussion instruments inspired by Polynesian drums.

Another first is the debut of a Disney Parks parade float inspired by Disney/Pixar’s “Coco.”  Miguel, the guitar-strumming protagonist, performs on a bridge connecting the Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead that is covered in more than 30,000 marigolds.  Miguel is accompanied by his dog Danté and a procession of colorful alebrije spirit animals.

The spirit animals aren’t the only ones looking their best.  The modern runway-inspired costumes were designed to be fashion-forward, making the parade feel contemporary and classic all at the same time.

The parade soundtrack was influenced by pop culture and features two original songs.

“Magic Happens” Floats

In addition to Mickey, Moana, and Miguel, the “Magic Happens” floats feature a variety of characters.  You’ll be wowed by the 39-foot long “Frozen 2” float bringing the Enchanted Forest to Anaheim.

The fantastic finale showcases the moments of magic that transform each character’s story.  First, you’ll be visited by magic makers like Genie, Tinker Bell, and the Fairy Godmother.  Here are some additional moments to look for:

  • Bippity Boppity Boo! Cinderella’s pumpkin becomes a glistening carriage as she is whisked off to the ball.
  • Long live King Arthur who finds magic to pull the sword from the stone thanks to Merlin!
  • Magic is sealed with a kiss as it transforms Tiana and Naveen from “The Princess and the Frog” amidst a canopy of swirled flowers.
  • The three Good Fairies join Prince Phillip and Princess Aurora whose gown shimmers pink and blue on a float with a turret reaching approximately 30-feet tall.
