Characters Wanted for IPW 2019 in Anaheim

Visit Anaheim Hosts International Tourism Mega Event For the Second Time Driving Additional International Tourism and $891 Million of Direct Economic Impact

DENVER, Colo. (May 23, 2018) – Visit Anaheim set the stage for U.S. Travel Association’s IPW 2019, unveiling key event details happening during the travel industry’s premier international marketplace. From opening night through closing ceremony events, more than 6,000 delegates from 70 countries will be welcomed to a completely revitalized Anaheim.

Hosting IPW for the second time, Visit Anaheim will showcase key facets of the destination’s substantial $6 billion destination development investment from June 1-5, 2019. From a magical opening night experience at Disneyland® Resort on Sunday, June 2, through a spectacular closing ceremony event at Knott’s Berry Farm on June 5, Anaheim will show its uncommon character traits at every turn.

“Characters are in Anaheim’s DNA,” said Jay Burress, president & CEO, Visit Anaheim. “We’re a city built on imagination, possibility and creativity, beginning with Walt Disney’s genius and vision. That spirit is inspiring a new cast of uncommon characters and unleashing a fresh wave of sights, sounds, flavors and fun across our landscape that we’re excited for you to experience during IPW 2019 in Anaheim.”

In between the two major events, attendees and media, will experience key elements of the destination’s development surge including a wide-variety of new hotel product, revamped neighborhood spaces, mixed-use developments, and new innovative culinary and brewery offerings by local Anaheim characters. Visit Anaheim will also implement an enticing lineup of events and tours throughout Orange County to showcase the area’s world-renowned tourism offerings.

“Tourism is our #1 industry in Anaheim and IPW allows us to be front and center to thousands of influencers, driving international tourism to our destination,” said Burress. “Our plan in 2019 is simple – transform the way you see Anaheim by the experiences you are treated to during your stay.”

The annual IPW trade show is the largest generator of travel to the U.S., bringing together international travel buyers with professionals representing domestic travel product such as destinations, hotels, attractions to conduct business otherwise generated through exhaustive international trips. IPW is held in a different U.S. city each year and is proven to generate additional travel and a strong economic impact for the host-city.

Anaheim will benefit by seeing a 1.06 million increase in international visitors over the next three years, an increase in tourism spending by $1.6 billion and a direct economic benefit of $891 million to the city of Anaheim and local businesses (Source: Rockport Analytics).
