Commission of Southern California Destination Marketing Organizations Successfully Attracts National Sporting Event to West Coast

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2020) ― Orange County Sports Commission (OCSC), a countywide coalition of destination marketing organizations partnered to book and promote sporting events, today announced the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) awarded OCSC the rights to host the Women’s Beach Volleyball National Championships for 2025 and 2026 in Huntington Beach, Calif.

The NCAA received more than 3,000 bid submissions from NCAA member schools, conferences, sports commissions and cities vying to host predetermined rounds for 86 of the NCAA’s 90 championships. OCSC’s successful bid to bring the Women’s Beach Volleyball National Championships to the West Coast for the first time is an impressive accomplishment for the organization.

“Orange County Sports Commission has the connections to make every event a world-class production,” said Junior Tauvaa, Chief Sales Officer, Visit Anaheim and Orange County Sports Commission. “Huntington Beach’s direct access to world-class beaches and resorts makes it a premier venue to attract sporting events like beach volleyball. We are thrilled to be named host for two years in a row because we know the significant positive economic impact this event will have on our community.”

With future dates of May 2-4, 2025 and May 1-3, 2026 confirmed, Huntington Beach City Beach will play host to eight NCAA Division I Women’s Beach Volleyball teams. The event will be held before the annual AVP Huntington Beach Open creating a two-week long beach volleyball paradise.

“We are delighted that Huntington Beach was selected as the host venue for the NCAA Women’s Beach Volleyball Championships, for not one, but two consecutive years. For decades, our Surf City USA community has embraced beach volleyball with various public courts that stretch over 10 miles of coastline accommodating everything from training camps to amateur and professional tournaments. The Huntington Beach Pier continues to be an iconic backdrop for numerous sporting events, so we’re excited that these collegiate athletes, their families, coaches and fans will experience our world class beach sports destination while serving up aces. Together with our partners at Visit Anaheim, we cannot wait to welcome everyone to Orange County, California,” said Kelly Miller, President & CEO, Visit Huntington Beach.

The bid for the Women’s Beach Volleyball National Championships was submitted by the OCSC and Long Beach State University, along with help from partners at Visit Huntington Beach and AVP. The sites were selected by the respective NCAA sports committees and approved by the divisional competition oversight and championships committees.
