Comprehensive tool to guide clients on how to safely host a local event

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Aug. 20, 2020) ― Visit Anaheim and the Anaheim Convention Center today released a Resource & Recovery Playbook to help clients navigate how to safely and responsibly meet in Anaheim when the time is right.

Focused on supporting its customers in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Visit Anaheim and the Anaheim Convention Center partnered with the local business community to offer a helpful guide that will allow clients to start thinking about what conventions and meetings will look like when they are cleared to resume.

This new playbook details foundational principles for planning development including flexible, adaptable guidelines that customers can overlay with their own organizational requirements. From a physical distancing meeting space calculator to creative food and beverage ideas, it is a comprehensive resource that highlights the destination’s new approach to meetings.

“Our team is working hand-in-hand with our partners and the city of Anaheim to identify and implement the best sanitation procedures for the benefit of our customers,” said Jay Burress, president & CEO, Visit Anaheim. “It will be our great pleasure to welcome back visitors and help them host safe, healthy, and beneficial meetings and conventions in Anaheim.”

The Anaheim Convention Center stands ready to safely and responsibly reopen under guidance from state and county health officials.

Some of the Anaheim Convention Center’s recovery efforts include:

  • Receiving the GBAC Star Accreditation, recognizing the convention center for sanitizing and other preparedness programs and procedures
  • Use of federally approved disinfectant products
  • Installation of 90 wall-mounted hand sanitizer stations
  • Posting of physical distancing capacity charts and additional safety signage
  • Increased training on health and safety for Anaheim employees

“It is clear that the way we come together for meetings and conventions has changed amid the coronavirus pandemic, and as we gradually reopen the Anaheim Convention Center and The Anaheim Resort™ it is important to ensure we’re doing so safely and responsibly,” said Tom Morton, executive director of Convention, Sports and Entertainment for the city of Anaheim. “Though the convention center has been closed to the public since March, we have been hard at work implementing new safety and sanitation procedures and planning for a safe return of conventions and meetings to Anaheim.”

Hosting more than one million attendees in a normal year, the Anaheim Convention Center is a vital part of Anaheim’s visitor industry. Revenues from visitors to the convention center allow Anaheim to provide essential services such as parks, public safety, roads and community centers for residents, businesses and visitors.

The Anaheim Convention Center has been temporarily closed since March as Anaheim focuses on addressing the coronavirus crisis. The convention center is preparing to resume events once it is safe to do so. In accordance with state guidance, the convention center is expected to open in phases later this year and in 2021.
