These Bookings will Bring $1.4 Billion in Economic Impact to the Local Community; Exceeding 2022 Numbers

ANAHEIM, Calif. (February 3, 2023) – Visit Anaheim, the official destination organization for Anaheim, announced it has confirmed 150 conventions, meetings, and events for 2023, which are projected to bring more than $1.4 billion in economic impact to the local community. Combined, these 43 conventions at the Anaheim Convention Center, 89 meetings and 18 events will generate an estimated $793 million in tourism occupancy tax (TOT) revenue for the city, exceeding 2022 tourism occupancy tax revenue numbers.

These meetings, conventions and events will bring 800,263 attendees and 584,970 room nights to local hotels in comparison to the 618,118 attendees and 447,355 room nights booked in 2022. As a result, 2023 will garner an additional $285 million in economic impact compared to 2022, demonstrating a strong recovery to the community because of attendees dining, shopping and entertaining while in town.

“Visit Anaheim has an exceptional year planned with shows like Natural Products, WonderCon, NAMM, VidCon, and many more returning to the Anaheim Convention Center. These shows along with a strong leisure return contributed to a 72% occupancy seen in Anaheim and Garden Grove since December,” said Jay Burress, President & CEO, Visit Anaheim.

Of the 150 meetings, conventions and events confirmed for this year, the Orange County Sports Commission (OCSC), a countywide coalition of destination marketing organizations and community partners, accounts for 18 of the events, contributing $70 million in economic impact to the local community.

“OCSC has enabled our region to usher in a new era of opportunity and unity for sporting events in Orange County,” said Burress. “This Commission is allowing Orange County to emerge as a premier sports destination and is paving the way to capitalize on the number of different world-class venues in the area, including the Anaheim Convention Center.”

Hosting an average of nearly one million attendees a year, the Anaheim Convention Center is a vital city asset, responsible for generating year-round tourism.
