Visit Anaheim Staff & Partners Raise Nearly
$15,000 to Fight Heart Disease in Local Community
Funds to Support Local Research, Education and Advocacy
Efforts to Combat the Leading Cause of Death in Orange County
ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 9, 2020) ― Visit Anaheim, the official destination organization for Anaheim, today announced its staff and partners have raised nearly $15,000 to support American Heart Association’s research, education and advocacy efforts in Orange County. To make a difference in the health of the local community, Visit Anaheim has rallied more than 200 participants since 2018 to join the Orange County Heart & Stroke Walk.
With heart disease as the leading cause of death in Orange County, Calif., Visit Anaheim remains steadfast in educating and training its community on how to fight heart disease. Roughly 70 percent of cardiac arrests that occur outside a hospital, occur at home and 90 percent of those victims do not survive due to people around them not knowing how to administer CPR. The annual Heart Walk is a fun and meaningful way for staff and partners to unite in making a lasting impact on the local community.
“Supporting the American Heart Association is a way we can directly giveback to our local Anaheim community, which is a fundamental part of what we do as an organization,” said Jay Burress, president & CEO, Visit Anaheim. “Through continued heart health fundraising and education efforts, the hope is that more lives can be saved throughout Anaheim and Orange County.”
Visit Anaheim’s support of and partnership with American Heart Association only continues to grow. In 2017, the American Heart Association decided to return to the Anaheim Convention Center for its annual meeting after a 16-year absence. To celebrate their return and mission, Visit Anaheim, in collaboration with American Heart Association, Orange County Division, launched “Heart-to-Heart,” a three-year giveback campaign to educate and train local high school students on CPR.
Completed in Dec. 2019, Visit Anaheim’s “Heart-to-Heart” campaign successfully provided all eight Anaheim Union High Schools with multiple American Heart Association CPR in Schools Training Kits™, a donation from Visit Anaheim totaling more than $105,000. This campaign successfully ensured more than 30,000 students are equipped with lifesaving CPR skills.
