First of Five Fan Conventions to Return to the Anaheim Convention Center in 2022

ANAHEIM, Calif. (March 30, 2022) – Booked by Visit Anaheim, the official destination marketing organization for Anaheim, WonderCon will be the largest fan convention to take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in over two years. From April 1-3, 2022, WonderCon, presented by Comic-Con International, will generate an estimated $82.3 million in economic impact to the local community and will be the first of five fan conventions to return to Anaheim this year.

Following WonderCon, the Anaheim Convention Center will host: VidCon, D23 Expo presented by Visa, Star Wars Celebration, and DesignerCon. Combined, these five fan conventions will bring 185,000 attendees to the destination and 57,000 room nights to local hotels. These conventions are also projected to bring an estimated $296 million in economic impact to the destination as well as generate $2 million in tourism occupancy tax (TOT) revenue for the city.

“Anaheim, host to some of the country’s largest consumer shows, attracts fan conventions because the city is a great destination for people looking to spend more time in their favorite fictional universes – from sports to Disneyland, our city has something for all types of fans,” said Jay Burress, President & CEO, Visit Anaheim. “Attendees are able to enjoy an unrivaled event experience paired with a world-class vacation.”

Fan conventions like WonderCon provide a unique opportunity for fans to bond over a shared passion and to express their enthusiasm through cosplay, meeting other fans, attending panels, and more. If consumers are invested in a fandom of any kind, whether it’s science fiction TV and film, comic books or pop culture, there’s a convention for that.

"For the first time since 2019 we're more than excited that WonderCon is returning to Anaheim for an in-person show," said David Glanzer, spokesperson for the fan event. "It's been a long time and we're ready to see old friends and make new ones during the fun-packed three days of WonderCon."
